Rockford Fosgate Prime R1000-1D 1000 Watt Mono Amplifier Review

If you are looking to upgrade your in-car audio then a great step is to get a good amplifier that delivers on the promise that you have in your mind. If you are looking at the Rockford Fosgate Prime R1000-1D then it is likely that you already have an amplifier in your car and are now looking to upgrade it to the next level. Or else, you want to immediately go for a better amp from the get-go.

In many ways the Rockford Fosgate Prime R1000-1D is an intermediate level amp that offers 1000 watts of power, and a number of additional circuitry enhancements that make for clearer sound and bass improvements over cheaper models.

Some of the details of this include a chassis design which delivers a Class D sound performance which is totally different from the Class A/B amps that you often see for sale.  And it does this at a small package size of only 7 pounds and product dimensions of 11.5 x 7.7 x 2.4 inches, but with an overall efficiency rating of 90% which means that you get the sound clarity you want without the battery overhead of less efficient units.

Another feature that stands out is the addition of RCA Pass-Thru Jacks that means that you can daisy chain another amplifier off of this unit, without passing another set of cables from the front of the car.

This means that if you have an existing amp for example but want to upgrade to a better one, like the Rockford R1000-1D, then you can still keep it and simply add to its power by daisy chaining it from this new unit.

It also has a nifty phase switch capability which means that you aren’t limited to one angle with the unit, but can instead choose the output phase of the amp between zero degrees and one-hundred and eighty degrees.  And added to that there is a variable low pass crossover feature which means that you can make different frequency changes, and also affect the base directly with a base level control and a remote punch level control which means that you can control the gain on the unit from your car dashboard.

One other really nice feature is the inclusion of Protect and Power LEDs which are designed to illuminate if there is either a short circuit in the unit, or there is too low an impedance in the unit. If either of those two circumstances occurs then the amplifier will automatically shut down to stop any harm coming to the circuitry. This is important, because either of these can cause irreperable damage to units that don’t have the feature. But with them you can be sure that a few tweaks later and you will soon be back in business pumping out the music!

Let’s take a look at some of the other details about what you get with the Rockford Fosgate Prime R1000-1D.
